Travelling with your pooch? Then stay with us for the perfect dog-friendly break! At The King’s Arms, we welcome muddy paws with open arms. We are super-dog-friendly , and our four-legged friends are welcome in the bar, garden, terrace and our super-stylish rooms on the 1st floor.
Our full restaurant menu is available in the bar and outside areas, so you can tuck into our trademark delicious West Country food with your dog happily at your side. Pampered pooches staying overnight get their very own goody bag.
Dorchester is a fantastic market town, and there are lots of great local walks on the doorstep to get tails wagging.
There is a £15 supplement per stay for dogs.
Useful information
Arrival and departure
Check in is from 4pm but it’s always possible the room will be available earlier, so please call us and check. You will be sent an online check-in form to e-sign the day before arrival which sets out our T&Cs and requests important information such as vehicle registration number in order for you to gain access to the automated car park.
Departure is from 11am although we are happy to leave it until later if there are no incoming guests for the room.
Please advise the hotel if you wish to arrive after 10pm as the doors will be locked. The front desk is staffed 24 hours a day.
Parking
We have parking available at rear of the hotel for residents, which can be accessed from Friary Lane. (Turn into North Square from the High Street, then first right into Friary Lane and the car park is on the right.) Access to the car park is via number plate recognition so please ensure you inform the hotel of your car registration prior to arrival.

Children
Dogs
Dogs are welcome on the 1st floor rooms at a charge of £15 per dog per stay and this must be arranged with the hotel in advance. If you are bringing a dog then they must not be left alone in the bedroom/bathroom at any time unless they are in a secure crate. Your dog can accompany you to the bar and old smoking room, where we serve our full restaurant menu, so they need not spend any time without you! Any damage caused to the paintwork or furnishings by a dog left unaccompanied will be chargeable.
Cancellation T&Cs
Any Advanced Purchase Early Booker rates must be pre-paid in full at the time of the booking and are non-refundable and non-transferable. For all other bookings we ask that they are cancelled or amended before midnight 2 full days prior to your arrival date to avoid a penalty charge of the full stay. Payment for the stay will be taken 2 full days before arrival date.
We ask that bookings of 3 or more rooms are cancelled or amended 14 days prior to arrival date to avoid cancellation charges. Group bookings of 8 rooms or more may be cancelled or amended free of charge 4 weeks prior to arrival date, if cancelled or amended within this time frame a cancellation fee will apply.
Please note we do not pay commission to 3rd party agents who book direct with the hotel and/or with whom there is no signed, written contract.
Payments
Card details are required to secure the booking and your card will be charged the full amount 48 hours prior to arrival, in line with the cancellation policy.
Getting here
By car
Whichever direction you’re driving from (A37 from the North or A35/A31 from the East), the roads towards Dorchester provide some of the most beautiful views imaginable.
By train
Equally stunning scenery travelling on the Weymouth train from London Waterloo to Dorchester South, which is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel, past the pretty Brewery Square, or short taxi ride away.
Accessibility
Although we have a lift in the building for the 1st and 2nd floors, none of our bedrooms are adapted for wheelchair access.
The ground floor of the hotel is accessible in a wheelchair and there is a disabled toilet.
